Instruments should be sized to the hand's finger length and finger-tip shape and NOT body size. Most salesman and many teachers do not understand this. This is why Guy personally and correctly fits every student for a successful start. He requires a nylon-string ukulele or classical guitar for children under the age of 11. He recommends Cordoba instruments. Call 712-250-4398 for an appointment.

  • Instruments are not one size fits all. Body size, nut width and scale are different on each different size.
  • Ukuleles sizes - soprano, concert, tenor and baritone
  • Guitar sizes - 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 7/8, full, concert, auditorium, dreadnought, jumbo and orchestra

  • Guitar - age 7
  • Ukulele - age 5
  • Bass - age 8

How Often Do Beginners Meet For Lessons?

  • Weekly - 25-minute lessons in-studio on the same day & time
  • Video call lessons - are a good supplementary option

How Often do Intermediate and Advanced Players Meet For Lessons?

  • Options - weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, seasonal, summer-only, as needed
  • Extended sessions - 50 minutes or 100 minutes in studio or via video call are a great option

Rescheduling & Refunds

  • Reschedules require prior notice and availability. Our full studio schedule can not always accommodate reschedules.
  • No credits, refunds or make-ups for missed lessons

Teacher Cancellation

We reschedule when the teacher is absent. Also:

  • The teacher cancels in-studio lessons or offers webcam lessons during your regular day/time for a student who is sick, has bed bugs, lice, hand warts, smells of tobacco or cat, or had contact with a either that day due to Guy's allergy.
  • Weather Closings - are announced via text and email. We do NOT close because schools do
  • Webcam Lessons - may be available when time or bad weather does not permit travel

Terminating Lessons

  • Clients give 30-day notice prior to the 25th of the month
  • Returning students - are always welcome back but may be placed on the waiting list
  • Misbehavior - if the (1) student does not practice and/or (2) the student, parent, or guardian become disruptive, disrespectful or does not follow Somers Guitar policy and/or (3) cause damage to the teacher including but not limited to equipment, furnishings, or lost time then the teacher reserves the right to terminate lesson(s) without refund and hold the person(s) responsible for damages. The teacher alone defines what constitutes misbehavior.

Keeping My Spot If I Stop For A Month(s) Or Summer?

Yes - if you pay to retain it. Instead, we suggest the following if you will be away:

  • Webcam lessons
  • Double sessions before or after you return (if available) when gone a week or two
  • Extended 1 hour 40 minute session (equal to 1 month of lessons) when gone a month
  • Otherwise, the time is usually filled by (1) existing students, (2) waiting list people, (3) or the public
  • You are welcome to return IF we have an opening

Short breaks are better than a long summer vacation. Studies show 70% of students who take the summer off quit because they forget too much and lose interest. We encourage lessons all year long and take 10 weeks off a year from playing and practicing. There are no lessons around busy holidays, common travel & vacation times, and months with a 5th week. This gives a break from lessons and practice when families want time off while progressing the student forward musically.

Lesson payment amounts below are paid in full, in advance, by the 25th.

  • 50-minutes - $50
  • Monthly - $85
  • Trimester - $340
  • 6 months - $510 ($35 off)
  • Annual - $1020 ($85 off)

Other Fees

  • Annual Registration Fee ($85)
  • No 30-Day Notice of Termination ($85)
  • Returned Check ($35)
  • Late Payment ($15)
